Terms of use

The agreement between you and Waitery Inc for the Laytr iPhone app and this website. Written to be read, not to be skipped.

In effect 21 August 2026 ·Laytr for iPhone, version 1.0

1. Who these terms are with

Laytr is provided by Waitery Inc (“we”, “us”). By installing or using Laytr you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Laytr is distributed through Apple’s App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of it. Where these terms and Apple’s standard agreement conflict, Apple’s governs. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Laytr, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

2. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Laytr on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, resell, rent out, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the app except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

3. Your content is yours

Everything you save in Laytr stays yours. We claim no licence over it, because we never receive it: it is stored on your device and there is no Laytr account or content server. See the privacy policy for what that means in detail.

Because your archive lives on your device, you are responsible for keeping it. Losing, wiping, resetting or replacing your iPhone without a backup or an export loses your Laytr data, and we cannot recover it for you — not as a matter of policy, but because we do not have a copy. Laytr’s export exists for exactly this reason and is always free.

4. What you agree not to use Laytr for

Save what you like. But you agree not to use Laytr to store or handle content that you have no right to, or in a way that breaks the law or another service’s terms. Laytr is built so that it will not help you do so: it never bypasses a paywall, a meter, a login wall or a consent gate, and it never downloads video from a platform.

5. Free tier, Patron, and what money changes

Laytr is free to use and holds up to 50 saved items that you have not deleted. Becoming a Patron removes that limit. That is the only thing it changes.

Prices are the U.S. figures; your local price is set by the App Store and shown to you before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and are managed — including cancellation — in your Apple Account settings. Payment is taken by Apple, not by us.

6. What we will not do — the two promises

These are commitments, not preferences, and the app is built so we could not quietly break them.

Cancelling or lapsing never deletes, hides or locks your content

If you cancel, or a payment fails, or a subscription simply ends, every item you saved stays exactly where it is. You keep reading it, searching it, organising it, opening it offline and exporting it. The only thing that stops is adding new items, until you are back under 50 items or back on a plan. There is deliberately no code path in Laytr from your payment status to your content.

Export is never behind the paywall

Exporting your entire archive — readable Markdown and HTML, every note, tag, date and case, your preserved articles, and your original files byte for byte — is free on any plan or none, including after a lapse and while over the free limit. Restoring a Laytr export back into the app is likewise exempt from the free limit, because an export you cannot restore is not ownership.

7. Refunds

All purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com and are granted at Apple’s discretion under their terms. We cannot issue a refund for an App Store purchase ourselves. If something has gone wrong, write to us anyway — we would rather fix it.

8. What Laytr does not promise to do

Laytr saves web pages by reading the HTML a site sends. It never runs JavaScript, so pages that build their article in the browser, and pages behind paywalls or logins, may produce no offline copy. When that happens the app says so plainly and keeps the link. Some links, some files, and some sites will not preserve, and that is a permanent characteristic of how Laytr is built rather than a fault to be fixed. The support page lists these boundaries in full, and you should read them before buying anything.

9. Availability and changes

We may update Laytr, and may change or discontinue features. Because the app works without any server of ours, an update that we never ship does not stop your copy from working: it keeps saving, reading, searching and exporting on your device.

If we change these terms materially, the updated version is published here with a new effective date. Continuing to use Laytr after that date means you accept the change.

10. No warranty

Laytr is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every page you save will preserve.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to Laytr is limited to the amount you actually paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data — including data lost with a device — which is why the export exists and is free.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all the statutory rights your local law gives you, and nothing here overrides them.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also rely on the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in.
