Press

Laytr is a private archive for everything you mean to come back to. Save it from any app, tell Laytr when to bring it back, and it returns that day. iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Download the press kit View on the App Store

One ZIP, 5.7 MB: six composed App Store frames, the same six screens unframed in light and dark, the wordmark, symbol and app icon, and a plain-text fact sheet. Everything is cleared for editorial use.

Covered in TechCrunch, 2 October 2026, and in 9to5Mac’s Indie App Spotlight, 29 August 2026.

The story

There is no server.

Two cloud read-later services deleted their users’ libraries within nine months of each other. Laytr’s answer is structural rather than promissory: there is no account to close and no service to shut down, because there is nowhere for a saved item to go except the phone it was saved on.

Everything lives on the device

No account, no sign-in, no Laytr server. Articles are preserved on-device as clean, readable copies that open in Airplane Mode. Screenshots become searchable through on-device Vision text recognition; the images are never sent anywhere for processing.

It comes back when you said

Tonight, this weekend, a date, or Someday. Every choice shows the real time it means before you commit, and the item returns then, staged at the top of the Now tab rather than buried in a list. There are no streaks and no overdue states, and “Not now” is as valid an answer as “Done”.

Built natively, all the way down

SwiftUI throughout, adopting Liquid Glass on iOS 26 through standard components. StoreKit 2 with transaction verification, which alone decides what a reader owns. The purchase step itself is run by RevenueCat, which sees a random identifier and what was bought, and never anything saved.

The two promises

Neither is a policy; both are how the app is built.

These are the two claims worth checking, so here is exactly how far they go.

Lapsing never locks anything

Cancel, or let a plan lapse, and nothing is deleted, hidden or locked. Reading, search, organising, export and item detail take no entitlement at all — there is no path from payment to content to begin with. The only thing that stops is adding new saves, until the archive is back under 30 items or back on a plan.

Export is never paywalled

The whole archive exports as one open ZIP — readable Markdown and HTML for every item, notes, tags, dates and cases, the preserved articles, and original files byte for byte. Free on any plan or none. Restoring a Laytr export is itself exempt from the free limit, because an export you cannot restore is not ownership.

Fact sheet

The details, without the adjectives.

Screens

Six screens, light and dark.

Shown here at web size. The kit carries all six at full resolution (1320×2868), unframed, in both appearances — plus the six composed App Store frames.

The Now tab. A returned article is staged at the top under a BACK ON TOP tab with Done and Not now beneath it, then COMING NEXT, then just-saved cards wearing chartreuse WHEN? chips.

№ 01 · Now

What came back, and what you just saved.

The Timeline tab. A week ribbon runs across the top with a chartreuse dot on each day that has a return, and scheduled saves are listed beneath in named buckets.

№ 02 · Timeline

Every scheduled return, by week.

The Library tab. Index tabs run along the top, a row of tags with live counts sits beneath, and the archive is laid out as a grid of numbered catalog cards.

№ 03 · Library

The whole archive, filed.

The Search tab showing results for a query, with the matching words highlighted inside article text and inside the text read out of a saved screenshot.

№ 04 · Search

It reads inside the screenshots.

An item detail page showing one saved article with its accession number, source, return time, notes and tags laid out like a catalog entry.

№ 05 · Item

One save, and everything known about it.

The reader showing a preserved article as clean body text with its images, in the app's own typography rather than a web page.

№ 06 · Reader

The preserved article, in Laytr’s own reader.

Boundaries

What it deliberately does not do.

Most of this is a boundary rather than a gap, and none of it is going to change quietly. The full list, with reasons, is on the support page.

  • Sync is through the reader’s own iCloud, not ours. Saves move between iPhone, iPad and Mac, on by default and free on every plan, with one switch in Settings to turn it off. On the Mac it needs Laytr for Mac 1.1 or later.
  • No AI. No summarising, no automatic tagging, no suggestions.
  • No feed, no discovery, no recommendations, no social features.
  • No watch app, no widgets, no web version.
  • It never runs JavaScript to save a page, so pages that build themselves in the browser produce no offline copy — and the card says so rather than pretending.
  • It never logs in, never gets past a paywall or a meter, and never downloads or re-hosts video from social platforms.

Brand & contact

Using the artwork.

The wordmark, the compact wordmark, the ✳ reference mark and the app icon are all in the kit, as SVG and PNG. Please use the supplied files rather than recreating them.

  • Clear space on all sides equals one diameter of the ✳ mark at its lockup size.
  • Chartreuse is #C6D92E on light, #D6E84A on dark.
  • Do not recolour the letters, outline, rotate, stretch, add shadows, or place the wordmark over imagery.
  • In running text the name is “Laytr” — capital L, one word. Never “Later”.

Review access

Offer codes for Premium are available to writers and reviewers on request — just say what you are working on. There is nothing to set up: Laytr needs no account, and the free tier is the same app.

Interviews and questions

Laytr is made by Mostafa Talaat at Waitery Inc. Technical questions about how any of the above actually works are welcome and answered properly.
